Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta 41, Holdingford 14
MORRIS – Jackson Loge caught three first half touchdowns and the Tigers routed Holdingford 41-14 to move to 2-0 on the season.
Zach Bruns racked up 206 total yards and five touchdowns for the Tigers who outgained the Huskers 327-180.
Loge finished with seven catches for 82 yards, Kenny Soderberg had 62 yards on two catches, and Durgin Decker ran for a 13-yard touchdown.
The Tigers opened the scoring on Bruns 22-yard connection to Loge.
After Holdingford’s Tate Lang scored to make it 8-6, the Tigers struck again when Bruns took it to the house from 35 yards out, he then hit Loge for two more short touchdown passes to give the Tigers a 28-6 halftime lead.
Bruns and Decker added touchdown runs in the third and the game had a running clock in the fourth quarter.
Rockford 20, Minnewaska Area 6
GLENWOOD – Minnewaska couldn’t overcome a five-turnover night in a 20-6 loss to Rockford Friday from Veteran Field in Glenwood.
The Lakers forced four turnovers but themselves gave it away five times to fall to 0-2 on the season.
Rockford broke a scoreless tie in the second quarter when receiver Wes Overton made a one-handed grab and took it 48-yards to the house. The two-point conversion made it 8-0.
After a Lakers fumble, the Rockets cashed in with a four-yard touchdown run from Connor Schreckenghaust to make it 14-0.
Aaron VerSteeg’s second interception late in the first half set up the Lakers lone score, a 21-yard touchdown from Darion Alexander to Peyton Johnsrud.
Alexander’s second pick of the night set up Schreckenghaust’s second touchdown run that sealed the win for Rockford.
Schreckenghaust ran for 55 yards on 16 carries, Zilmer was 6-20 passing for 111 yards. Overton caught three passes for 80 and the Rockets are 2-0.
Alexander finished 12-27 passing for 138 yards, Tyson Meyer carried 19 times for 78 yards and VerSteeg hauled in five catches for 56 yards.
Defensively VerSteeg finished with two interceptions and a fumble recovery, Meyer had eight tackles, Jakob Swalla had six tackles and a sack.
West Cenral Area/Ashby 40, Staples-Motley 0
STAPLES – West Central Area/Ashby ran for 458 yards in a 40-0 rout of Staples-Motley on Friday.
Anthony Sykora led the Knights ground attack with 287 yards and two touchdowns, including a 55-yarder to open the scoring in the second quarter. Jaden Norby added 120 yards and a touchdown, rushing on 18 carries for the Knights who are 3-0.
