Christmas Toy Shoppe and Wish Tree Plans Are A Go

Despite all the roadblocks and obstacles connected with Covid, the Morris Area Women of Today are making plans for this year’s Christmas Toy Shoppe and Wish Tree. It is believed that these programs will be needed more than ever for families in Stevens County. The public’s help will be needed again this year.

The Christmas Toy Shoppe and Wish Tree serve children from infant to eighteen years of age. Parents are invited to come and “shop” for gifts for their children. Each child will receive a gift, a stocking stuffer, and a new pair of mittens, hats and/or scarves. Additionally, each family will receive a new blanket or quilt and a game to encourage family time. If donations are received for new toothbrushes, these are also distributed along with batteries for any toys/gifts that require batteries. The Wish Tree provides new articles of clothing for each child that is adopted off a participating Wish Tree site.

Families that would like to receive assistance through these programs can pick up registration forms either at Stevens County Social Services or Someplace Safe Thrift Store. You can also contact Chair Peggy Kill at 320-287-0597 and a registration form can either be mailed or e-mailed. All forms needed to be received by December 10th.

Many area businesses will have “donation boxes” in their business for you to drop off donated items such as toys, gifts, mittens/hats/scarves, blankets/quilts, or games. If you need to find a site, please call Peggy.

If you would like to donate cash to be used to purchase additional gifts and to help in filling in the gaps, please make your check out to Women of Today Foundation (Toy Shoppe in memo) and mail this to P.O. Box 82 in Morris.

If interested in “adopting a tag” with information on a child in need, you can pick up these tags as the following businesses: Just Us Boutique, Inherit, Pizza Ranch, Bremer Bank, Stevens County Court House, Hands For Health and Heartland Motor Company. Just Us Boutique in Morris has graciously agreed to be our Drop Off Site for the Wish Tree. After you have picked up your tag(s), and shopped, you can then attach your tag to your bag and drop it off at Just Us Boutique on Main Street/Atlantic Avenue in Morris. No need to wrap; just put it in a sturdy bag with the tag firmly attached. Your tag will give you options for that child including their favorite color and sizes for tops, pants, pajamas and socks. You are not required to pick up one of everything. Tags will be out by Thanksgiving Week and bags need to be returned by 3:00 p.m. December 16th.

Actual Distribution Day will be Saturday, December 19th at the Morris National Guard Armory which should allow us to social distance and keep everyone safe.

Anyone having questions or need additional information can contact Morris Area Women of Today Project Chairs Peggy (320-287-0597) or Kellie (320-288-6742). Help make this Christmas Season brighter for many area children and families.
